Our Primary School

What happens next

From Pre-school to Reception — without missing a beat.

When your child is ready for Reception, they continue with us at St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School — in the same building, with the same warm welcome, on the same beautiful grounds.

Choosing a Pre-school often means choosing your child's Primary school too. Many of our families pick St Peter Chanel Nursery & Pre-school precisely because of where it leads — into Reception at our Ofsted Good Catholic primary school, just a short walk across our grounds.

By the time your child starts Reception, they already know the school. They've visited the Reception garden, met their future teachers, and played in their future classroom. The first day of "big school" doesn't feel big at all.

Why our Pre-school families stay

🏫

A familiar place

Your child already knows the grounds, the playgrounds, the school office, and the assembly hall. There's no first-day shock.

👋

Familiar faces

Through regular transition mornings, your child meets their Reception teacher, explores their classroom, and joins in story time — months before Reception starts.

🌱

A consistent ethos

The same Catholic values, the same emphasis on knowing every child, the same warmth. Whether it's Pre-school or Year 6, the school feels the same.

How the transition works

Regular transition mornings throughout the Pre-school year

From the start of your child's Pre-school year, we organise transition mornings into Reception. Children walk over to the Reception classroom with their Pre-school key worker, take part in story time, explore the Reception garden, and meet the teachers and TAs who'll welcome them in September.

By the summer term, transitions happen weekly. By the first day of Reception, children are walking into a place they already love.

What our parents say

"Such a home-from-home feel. My oldest has graduated from the Pre-School and is now in Reception, and my 2-year-old now attends. The staff are quite frankly amazing to the children — we couldn't be happier." — Lauren-Raye, parent at both the Pre-school and Primary

Applying for Reception

If your child is in our Pre-school and you'd like them to continue into Reception at St Peter Chanel, you still need to submit a formal Reception application through the London Borough of Bexley. We're a Voluntary Aided Catholic school with our own admissions criteria — full details, including the Supplementary Information Form and Certificate of Catholic Practice, are on the Primary School website.

Applications for September 2027 entry: open 1 September 2026, close January 2027.
