Nursery in Sidcup for Children Aged 2–4
St Peter Chanel Nursery & Pre-School is a term-time nursery in Sidcup for children aged 2 to 4, open 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. We’re set in our own brand-new building (opened September 2025) on the site of St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School in Foots Cray, surrounded by grass and trees — and we accept 15 and 30 hours funded childcare.
A nursery where the same faces greet your child every day
Our staff team has been together since we opened in 2008. In a sector where staff turnover is the norm, many of the educators who welcomed our first children are still here. That continuity means your child is known, settled and secure from their very first week.
Nursery hours and sessions
We’re open Monday to Friday during school term time (38 weeks a year):
- Mornings: 7.30am – 12.30pm
- Afternoons: 1pm – 6pm
- Full days: 7.30am – 6pm, including lunch
- School-day sessions: 8.30am – 3.30pm, where a sibling attends St Peter Chanel Primary School
You can drop off later and collect earlier than the session times if that suits your routine. Full details are on our fees page.
Is a term-time nursery right for your family? We’re open term time only — we close during school holidays. For many families, especially those with school-age siblings or term-time work patterns, this fits family life perfectly and keeps costs down. If you need year-round care every week, a full daycare nursery may suit you better — and we’d rather help you work that out honestly than be the wrong fit. Call us on 020 8302 6029 and we’ll talk it through.
Funded places: 15 and 30 hours
All 3 and 4-year-olds receive 15 funded hours per week. Since September 2025, eligible working families receive up to 30 funded hours from 9 months old — which means working parents of 2-year-olds qualify too. See our funding and places page for what your family can get and how to apply.
Our new building and outdoor space
Our purpose-designed nursery building opened in September 2025: a bright, well-resourced classroom with dedicated reading and sleeping spaces, a covered outdoor deck for all-weather play, a mud garden and mud kitchen, and an extensive play area surrounded by grass and trees.
From nursery to Reception, without the upheaval
Because we share a site with St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School (Ofsted rated Good), children who stay with us move into Reception with familiar faces, familiar grounds and friends they already know. Families tell us this transition is one of the biggest reasons they chose us. All children are welcome, irrespective of faith.
Where our families come from
Most of our families live in and around Sidcup, Foots Cray, Albany Park, North Cray, Ruxley and New Eltham, across Bexley and the surrounding areas. We’re on Baugh Road (DA14 5ED), with parking directly across the road from the nursery.
Frequently asked questions
Are you a day nursery or a pre-school?
Both, in practice. We offer nursery care and pre-school education for ages 2–4 with full days from 7.30am to 6pm — the difference from a day nursery is that we run term time only and our focus is preparing children for school.
What ages do you take?
Children join us from age 2 and stay until they start Reception, usually the September after they turn 4.
Are you open during school holidays?
No — we run during school term time, 38 weeks a year.
How much does it cost?
Many of our families pay little or nothing thanks to funded hours. For paid sessions, see our fees page for current rates.
Can we visit before applying?
Please do — we’d love to show you around. Contact us to book a tour, or apply online when you’re ready.
