Farmyard Adventures & Phonics Fun | SPC Preschool Newsletter
We’ve had another exciting week at St Peter Chanel Pre-School as our farmyard adventure continues!
🐓 Farmyard Learning
We’ve been learning all about where our food comes from — milk from cows, eggs from chickens, and vegetables from the ground. The children used toy animals, food, and natural materials to explore these ideas.
Outside, we enjoyed digging, nature walks, and plenty of fresh air in our school grounds.
🔢 Maths Focus
We’ve been grouping objects into 3s and 4s and noticing that even when they’re rearranged, the total stays the same. Our younger children used comparison words like **more**, **lots**, and **the same** to explore quantity.
📚 Literacy & Phonics
In phonics, our focus sound was ‘W’— for ‘wave’, ‘wig’, and ‘web'‘.
Children blended sounds like `w-i-g` and `w-e-b`, developing key early reading skills.
- Older children: ‘The Little Red Hen’
- Younger children: ‘Where, Oh Where is Rosie’s Chick?’
🎶 Nursery Rhyme of the Week
This week’s rhyme was **Five Little Ducks** — which led to lots of singing (and quacking!) during group time.
🦸♀️ Superhero Day – Wednesday 21 May
Next week we launch into our Superhero theme!
Children are invited to dress as their favourite superhero on Wednesday 21 May..
No costume? No problem! We have plenty of dress-up clothes to share, so every child can join in.
