Growing up and Transition to Reception
Wow – what a hot week it has been here at our outstanding nursery in Sidcup! To help everyone stay cool, we’ve enjoyed lots of water play activities. The children loved turning the water trays into mini paddling pools, splashing around with their friends. Apologies if your little one came home with extra bags of soggy clothes – we certainly made the most of the sunshine!
This week we have been exploring how we are all growing and changing. As some of our older children prepare to start Reception, we’ve been chatting about all the new skills they have learned and how much they have developed. It was wonderful to hear them talk about getting taller, running faster, and trying new things.
In maths, we focused on comparing quantities and capacity, using language like more and less. The children enjoyed pouring and scooping water with different-sized containers – a great way to build early maths skills through play.
✨ Little Wandle Early Phonics Group
Our focus sound this week was th – as in thumb, three, and bath. We practised blending words like th-u-mb, t-ee-th, and m-o-th. Developing phonics skills is an important part of getting ready for school, and the children are doing so well.
🎒 Big School Bear Transition Programme
As part of our Big School Bear activities, children thought about their sense of identity and all the ways we are unique and special. These conversations help prepare them for moving up to Reception confidently and positively.
Our children who will be starting Reception this September at St Peter Chanel have been enjoying transition visits, exploring their new classroom and meeting their teacher. These visits help build excitement for this next big step.
